Is Your AirBnB in a Safe Neighborhood?

So you’re ready to book an AirBnB but before you go through with it, you ask yourself, Is my AirBnB in a safe neighborhood? What kind of neighborhood is it? AirBnB won’t refund you just because you tell them you’re staying in a crime-ridden area.

So how do you decide if you don’t know the city?

Here in the United States, we have a couple of interesting tools to help us evaluate a neighborhood.

Walk Score (www.walkscore.com)

Type your potential property’s address or neighborhood into walkscore.com’s search bar.

The website will rank the location by its ‘walk score’, ‘transit score’ and ‘bike score’.

The neighborhood of one of my jobs ranks like this:

The 35-minute commute to downtown New York let’s you know how far you will be from the sights you came to see

Spotcrime (www.spotcrime.com)

Type your potential property’s address or neighborhood into spotcrime’s location bar.

Spotcrime’s cute crime icons will populate the recent crimes in the area, by type and provide you with the Google Street View for each incident.

My same area as viewed through spotcrime.com looks like this:
